The camp for War at Flood Tide '98 will be located on the Hazel Parker Athletic Fields on East Bay Street in Downtown Historic Charleston. The Two acre site is located between the City's famous Rainbow Row and the Harbor, South of Waterfront Park, North of the Battery, adjacent to the Charleston Yacht Club. The camp at War at Flood Tide will be under the Direction of Kipp Valentine and Chris Metts.
The camp will be open to the public on Saturday. Admission is $5 per family or $2.50 per adult. Visitors to the camp will be able to view living history demonstrations, a field hospital tent and medical demonstration, a working signal station with tower, visit Gen. Beauregard's Headquarters Tent, see musket firing demonstrations and the Federal demonstration area. The Harbor side of the camp has an excellent view of the Harbor Batle and largest cannons used during the battle reenactments, which will be positioned in the Earthwork Battery. Five merchants of Civil War goods (Sutlers) will be set up in camp.
View of North side of the Camp. The Signal Corps and Signal tower will be on the right, Confederate Artillery and Infantry to the Left and Sutlers (Merchants of Civil War Reproduction Goods) will be on the North side in the Center. Beyond the fence in one of Charleston's original cobblestone streets. Reenactor John Wilbanks stands in the Center. The Harbor and earthwork battery site are just out of frame on the right.
This view of the camp's Southern Side included the location of the Federal Camp, Provost and Period Civilians. The chain link fencing surrounding the camp will be largely hidden by tents when viewed from inside the camp. It provides an excellent safety and security barrier for our downtown camp. Following the reenactment the fields will be restored to their original condition.
