William Hamilton, the author and web editor of Civil War @ Charleston is an Attorney, Writer and Civil War reenactor living and working in historic downtown Charleston.

He was born in Charleston in 1959; educated in the public and private schools of that city and received a BA in English (Cum Laude with honors, 1982) from the University of South Carolina and a Juris Doctor from the USC school of Law (1985). He is a member of the S.C. Bar and the Bar of the Federal Courts. He conducts a general practice of law in Charleston.

His writing has been published in the Charleston Post and Courier; The Omnibus; Charleston Magazine; Triad Style; S.C. Lawyer; The Club; The Moultrie News; The Goose Creek Gazette; The James Island Journal; The Universalist Herald; Against the Grain; Point; The State; Camp Chase Gazette; Reenactor's Journal and many other publications.

He is a member of the 27th. SC Vol. Infantry (Charleston Sharpshooters, Palmetto Battalion reenacting regiment in which he holds the rank of Private. He is an honorary member of the 54th. Mass, Co. I reenactment regiment for which he is unit legal counsel. He was editor of the printed programs for the Battle of Secessionville reenactment, 1984 & 1985. He is a former member of the board of the S.C. Battleground Preservation Trust and 10th. S.C. Infantry Reenactors.
