About Tony Beck, the Author

Tony Beck is a private in the 1st S.C. Cavalry, Palmetto Battalion and a former member of the 4th Va. Cavalry and has been an active reenactor since 1981. While attending the University of Arizona, he served with the 5th Texas and 1st U.S. Infantry While recreating both the Civil War and Indian War eras.

In addition to reenacting, Tony is an active participant with the Laurel Brigade, A.N.V. in the North-South Skirmish Association and has competed with over a dozen types of Civil War small arms.

He is currently researching a book on Merrill carbines and rifles and currently shoots a Merrill carbine with NSSA.

His articles include, Shooting Civil War Breechloaders which appeared in the 1993 Dixie Gunworks annual and The 1866 Springfield in the 1996 annual.

He has an associates degree in Mechanical Engineering and Drafting and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He lives in Charleston, South Carolina, along with his wife, a Charleston native and their two year old daughter.
